LD 39: An Act to Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue in the Amount of $9,000,000 to Purchase School Buses for Public Schools.
| Description: | The funds provided by this bond issue ($9,000,000) will be used to purchase school buses for public schools. Proceeds of the bond issue will be dispersed over a 3-year period. It also required DOE to adopt rules to determine the criteria for bus replacement. The minimum would be at least 10 years old and have mileage in excess of 150,000 miles. |

LD 124: An Act to Allow for a Prorated Application of Property Tax Exemptions for Charitable and Benevolent Institutions.
| Description: | The Supreme Court of Maine ruled in City of Lewiston v. Marcotte Congregate Housing, Inc. that charitable and benevolent institutions must use the entirety of a parcel of land for their own purposes in order to obtain a property tax exemption. This revises the law to conform to what had been the practice in many jurisdictions prior to the Marcotte decision which is to allow the property tax exemption on a prorated basis for those portions of property used for the purposes of a charitable or benevolent institution or a literary or scientific institution. |
